Sailortown: Stories of the City was commissioned by The MAC as part of their programme of SARC artist residencies. The project documents the stories of people who lived and worked in Sailortown, the dockside area of Belfast, which has undergone significant change since the building of the M2 motorway in the 1960s.

Artists Fionnuala Fagan and Isobel Anderson were asked to collect interviews with members of The Sailortown Regeneration Group in order to compose a collection of songs which reflected life in Sailortown. Due to the incredibly rich and evocative narratives shared in the interview sessions the project developed further into an installation and live performance incorporating song, soundscapes, objects, images and text. The piece was shown in May 2012 at The MAC in Belfast and the response from visitors was extremely positive.

The songs and a film that documents the project, are available to stream on this site, and a CD of the songs has been archived at The British Library, London and The Linen Hall Library, Belfast..
